Las Vegas: At least 59 people were killed and over 500 wounded were hospitalised after a shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas. Police swarmed the south end of the Las Vegas strip late on Sunday night (US time) following reports of multiple shots fired from the Mandalay Bay casino where there was a concert under way, police said. The shooter had opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. The Las Vegas hospital said it was taking in several people with gunshot wounds. According to news agency AFP, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday expressed his condolences in a message to US leader Donald Trump, saying a deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas was "shocking in its cruelty."

"The crime that has taken the lives of tens of peaceful civilians is shocking in its cruelty," Putin said according to a statement from the Kremlin.

According to news agency Reuters, US officials said on Monday that there was no evidence that the shooter who killed at least 50 people in Las Vegas was tied to any international militant group, though one official said security agencies were examining an ISIS claim of responsibility.
 
ISIS issued a statement through its Amaq news agency claiming responsibility for the shooting, saying that the attacker had converted to Islam a few months ago.
 
One US official said there was reason to believe that the shooter, whom police identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, had a history of psychological problems.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a shooting that killed at least 50 people and wounded over 400 in Las Vegas early on Monday, and said the attacker had converted to Islam a few months ago, reports news agency Reuters.

The total number of people who died in the attack at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday has crossed over 50. The police responded at 10:08 pm local time to reports of multiple gunshots being fired and shot dead the gunman who sprayed bullets from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. The gunman was a local man who has been identified as Stephen Paddock, the police said. The shooter's 62-year-old companion, identified as Marilou Danley, has been located, the police added.

The spokeswoman for the University Medical Center hospital has said that 14 of the wounded are in a critical condition. All of them have suffered gunshot wounds, she said.
