Hong Kong: Philippines bus hostage survivor returns

Hong Kong: Philippines bus hostage survivor returns
Hong Kong: An injured survivor of the Philippines bus hostage drama in which eight Hong Kong tourists were killed returned to the territory on Thursday to continue medical treatment.

Jason Leung, identified by Canadian media as a Canadian citizen, had been hospitalised in Manila after surgery on a head wound.

He was taken by ambulance to Manila airport on Thursday morning, accompanied by his mother, and transferred to Hong Kong.

Leung's father, Ken, and two sisters, Doris and Jessie, aged 21 and 14, were killed in Monday's hijack drama.

Their bodies and those of the five other victims were flown home late on Wednesday.

Two wounded survivors also returned to continue medical treatment at hospitals in the territory.

Meanwhile, the president of the Philippines on Thursday vowed that "someone will pay" for the hostage crisis.

President Benigno Aquino III admitted there had been "many failures" during the nearly 12-hour hostage-taking drama, but stopped short of directly blaming the police.

The security committee of Hong Kong's Legislative Council was scheduled to hold its own hearing on the killings later on Thursday.
