Philadelphia:
A woman travelling to US from London died in a hotel near Philadelphia International Airport after receiving cosmetic injections in her buttocks. 20-year-old Claudia Seye Aderotimi died at a hospital on Monday after suffering from chest pains and breathing trouble.
Police questioned a New Jersey woman who they believe acted as a coordinator of buttocks and hip enlargements for the victim and another woman.
The developments came as a leading US plastic surgeon warned on Wednesday that such a procedure should never be carried out anywhere other than "in a hospital setting or in an accredited operating room."
"Buttock injections, typically, are not done with anything other than fat, and if that's going to be done, it should be done in an appropriate atmosphere," Dr Malcolm Roth, who is president-elect of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, said. "Clearly a Hampton Inn, which is where I understand this occurred, is not the appropriate setting for that."
"There are no short cuts when it comes to patient safety," he added.
Police were not sure why the women came to Philadelphia to undergo the procedures and that it was the first such case city police have come across.
