Colombia Busts Antiquities Traffickers

Bogota: Three people have been arrested in southern Colombia, accused of trafficking in more than 850 archaeological relics, police said Sunday.

The suspects, all members of the same family, were detained in the southern town of La Cruz for "illegally digging up (pre-Columbian) pieces and art," a statement said.

The relics, kept in a home that was used as a warehouse, were being sold to tourists and collectors, including foreigners, according to police, who were tipped off by falsified export permits.

Authorities did not immediately provide an estimated value for the items.
