Beijing: Chinese state media say authorities have banned productions with actors who are guilty of vice crimes such as using drugs or visiting prostitutes.

Although the industry's regulating agency, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television has not released the document, the website for the Communist Party-run People's Daily confirmed the ban by quoting unnamed insiders in its report on Thursday.

The news site says the ban targets directors, playwrights and actors who negatively impacted society with crimes such as using drugs or hiring prostitutes. It did not further clarify what kinds convictions would fall under the ban.

The report follows a string of police detentions this year involving celebrities, including Jaycee Chan, son of movie superstar Jackie Chan, on charges of drug use or paying for prostitutes.
