Athens: A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck central Greece some 59 kilometres (36 miles) west of Athens early Friday, the Athens Observatory said, with no immediate reports of damages.

The epicentre of the quake, described as "mild," was in the Korinthian Gulf in the Mediterranean sea, about 24 kilometres (14 miles) southwest of the city of Thebes, the Observatory said.

The quake was recorded at 5:05 local time (0205 GMT) and according to the state-run Athens News Agency, tremors were also felt in the Greek capital.
