COVID-19 cases continue to fall in the United States as more Americans are vaccinated and the weather turns warmer in much of the country. As cases continue their decline, hospitalisations and deaths are down accordingly. To talk about America's fight against the pandemic and what India can learn from it, we spoke with Dr Rohit Gulati, Chief Medical Officer , Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia. He said they were never comfortable with positivity rates over 5 per cent and this data should be used by the administration to decide on lockdowns and containment measures. He also said for better utilisation of resources, during the time when Covid cases peaked, there would be coordination among all Philadelphia hospitals for resources, and all non-essential surgical procedures were stopped, to free up more doctors and nurses.
