Violent protests have erupted across France, with clashes between demonstrators and police reported in Paris, Marseille and other cities. Police fired tear gas and water cannons as masked protesters clashed with officers, cars were set ablaze and a fire broke out inside a tourist office. In Marseille, protesters forced their way into the town hall, while reports from other areas described looting and damage to shops. The unrest is being fuelled by rising living costs, concerns over inequality, poor school facilities and teacher shortages, with demonstrators warning of further protests across the country.
