Donald Trump appeared to rule out negotiations with Iran unless it agrees to “unconditional surrender,” as the conflict in the region intensified. Israel carried out heavy airstrikes on Beirut and Tehran, while Iran launched another wave of retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and US interests across the Gulf region. The strikes in Lebanon were reported to be the heaviest since a 2024 ceasefire ended the last war between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah. Meanwhile, more than 95,000 people have fled Beirut’s suburbs and southern Lebanon after evacuation warnings, as US and Israeli strikes continue to target Iran’s military capabilities, leadership and nuclear program.
