That Sinking Feeling: War Expands To India's Backyard

The Indian Navy launched search and rescue operations following a distress signal from the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena, which sank in the Indian Ocean after being struck by a torpedo from a United States submarine.

A distress call from IRIS Dena reached the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Colombo during the early hours of March 4, according to a statement from the Navy.

The frigate was positioned 20 nautical miles west of Galle, within the search and rescue region under Sri Lankan responsibility.
