Sanjeev Kapoor Backs BRICS Vegetarian Menu, Calls Controversy A 'Non-Issue'

Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor has dismissed the controversy surrounding the all-vegetarian menu served at the BRICS gala dinner, calling it a "non-issue" and arguing that the focus should be on celebrating India's rich culinary heritage. Speaking to NDTV, Kapoor said India is uniquely positioned to showcase world-class vegetarian cuisine and described the menu as a powerful example of food diplomacy. He highlighted the inclusion of indigenous ingredients such as millets, gucchi mushrooms, falsa and mulberries, saying global platforms like BRICS offer an opportunity to introduce the world to India's diverse food traditions. Kapoor stressed that a single vegetarian meal does not restrict anyone's choices and noted that chefs design such menus keeping sustainability, nutrition, authenticity, innovation and diplomatic considerations in mind. According to him, the bigger story is India's ability to use food as a bridge between cultures and showcase its agricultural and culinary strengths on the global stage.
