Chennai Sees Heavy Rains, Waterlogging; Schools Shut In Four Districts

Heavy overnight rainfall has triggered waterlogging in several parts of Chennai, including T Nagar, Velachery and other low-lying areas, prompting a rain holiday for schools in Chennai and adjoining districts. After receiving significant rainfall, the city witnessed some respite as the rain eased and water began draining from flooded streets. Officials have deployed heavy-duty pumps, cleared stormwater drains and stepped up monsoon preparedness. The Met Office has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu, particularly in the northern, southern and delta districts, until October 26. NDTV reports from Chennai on the waterlogging, drainage measures and the state's preparations for the coming days of rain.
