The Supreme Court has rejected former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal's plea seeking a stay on his conviction in the 2013 Goa rape case. The court observed that a prima facie assessment of the evidence, including emails and messages, did not justify suspending the conviction at this stage. Tejpal was convicted by the Bombay High Court in August and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after a trial court had acquitted him in 2021. His appeal against the conviction is still pending.
