Okhla, Jamia Nagar — once known for education, culture, and food — is now crippled by open sewers, waterlogging, garbage, and civic neglect. Home to 5–6 lakh people, areas like Batla House, Zakir Nagar, Abul Fazal Enclave, and Shaheen Bagh turn unlivable after every rain, with sewage mixing into flooded streets. Residents, including children and the elderly, wade through contaminated water daily as local businesses collapse. Mountains of rotting garbage choke Zakir Nagar, Joga Bai, and even residential lanes, forcing schoolchildren to pass through filth. In Shaheen Bagh, a street dug up six months ago for sewer work remains in ruins. After heavy rain, choked drains and dangerous open 'naalas' make movement not only difficult, but life-threatening. NDTV's Ahtasham Khan gets you a ground report from Jamia Nagar.
