Reducing AFSPA Has Diminished Mental Distance Between Northeast And India: Himanta Sarma
The Centre has decided to decrease the jurisdiction of "disturbed areas" declared under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, or AFSPA, in parts of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur. Decades after being introduced, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, that has allowed soldiers to operate in disturbed areas without fear of arrest, continues to be withdrawn from some parts of the North East.
