In Chennai, it was the third day of an acute shortage of petrol and diesel with half the city's petrol pumps closed. People continued to queue up from early in the morning across fuel stations. Authorities said it was after a problem with one of BPCL's oil tankers in the Chennai Port because of which the required consignment of fuel could not be sent to retailers.
