A congregation near the Jain Temple at iconic Kabootarkhana in Dadar defied the Bombay High Court's order on banning pigeon feeding at public spaces and tore up the tarpaulin sheet covers that were set up by the municipal authorities to implement the court order due health concerns over pigeon droppings. The Bombay High Court decision was based on public health hazards, lung issues, and damage to heritage sites due to pigeon droppings as the pigeon population has grown exponentially in Mumbai. The Kabootarkhana have been a part of Mumbai and were initially started by Gujarati and Jain businessmen in Mumbai and now the Jain community is protesting the move to ban pigeon feeding in public.
