Mumbai News | Bhiwandi Building Collapse Claims 9 Lives, Rescue Operations Continue

A tragic building collapse in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi has claimed nine lives, with rescue teams working through the debris in search of any remaining victims. According to officials, the C-1 classified structure had already been declared unsafe and evacuated, but repair work allegedly began without municipal permission before the building collapsed. Thane Collector Shrikrishna Panchal confirmed that an inquiry is underway into the role of the contractor and owner. Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan assured strict action against those responsible and announced ₹5 lakh compensation for the families of each victim. Rescue operations by the NDRF, SDRF, police, and local authorities continued as officials assessed the condition of nearby buildings.
