After a cartoon of Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar in an NCERT book created a furore in Parliament last week, MPs cutting across party lines in Lok Sabha expressed concern over such material in textbooks, demanding the withdrawal of all disrespectful cartoons from textbooks. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal promised an inquiry into the role of NCERT officials and said that a suitable process would be put in place to ensure that such instances did not recur.
