Rahul Gandhi Calls For ‘Save Democracy’ Protest As Opposition Demands Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

The Opposition is taking its intensified 'vote chori' campaign to Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, accusing the Election Commission of electoral irregularities and demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. The rally follows a mock impeachment move against the CEC and comes with a sweeping set of demands, including a halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, restoration of allegedly deleted voters, repeal of the law governing Election Commissioner appointments and a return to paper ballots. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has also called for a treason trial against the CEC, while Rahul Gandhi has urged Opposition parties, civil society groups and students to join the 'Save Democracy' protest.
