At the NDTV World Summit 2025, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that over 50 nations have requested access to India's Aadhaar architecture, while more than 13 countries are already using the UPI system, including developed nations like Japan.
Calling it a "big win" for India's digital diplomacy, the Minister said the government made the entire framework open source, open standard, and open access to ensure other countries could adopt it while preserving their digital sovereignty, data privacy, and national ethos.
"We never charge royalties for the knowledge we create. Like the Hindu numerals that travelled from India to the world, we share our technological knowledge as soft power - not through conquest, but contribution," Mr. Vaishnaw said.
