Meghalaya News | Former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma Speaks To NDTV On August 19 Violence In Shillong

Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma speaks exclusively to NDTV about the violence that erupted in Shillong during the KSU protest on August 19. Sangma blamed the Meghalaya government for alleged failures in law-and-order assessment, intelligence gathering and preparedness, saying the violence could have been avoided. Sangma also discussed the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit, the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, stakeholder consultations and the concerns surrounding influx. He warned that the violence could damage Meghalaya’s image and urged that the situation not be allowed to turn into an Assam-Meghalaya or inter-community conflict.
