The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further advancement of the southwest monsoon across central and northern India over the next few days. Favorable conditions are expected to help the monsoon cover the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh before extending to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and southeastern Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued red alerts for extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the Northeast and warned of heavy rain across South India, while the advancing monsoon is expected to bring relief from heatwave conditions in northwestern India.
