India–US Trade Deal: What Gets Cheaper, What Doesn’t After the Midnight Breakthrough

In a dramatic late-night breakthrough, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump sealed what both sides are calling a historic India–US trade deal, ending months of tense negotiations. The agreement was finalised during a high-level phone call, with President Trump announcing a cut in reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25 percent to 18 percent. India, in turn, has agreed to open its markets wider to select American products, marking a major reset in bilateral economic ties.
