India toughens its stance over the case in a US court against Indian consular official Devyani Khobragade, and the treatment meted out to her. The government has objected to the legal proceedings in the United States, saying that Khobragade's erstwhile domestic help Sangeeta Richard is a deemed employee of the Indian government, and that US labour laws and minimum wages laws do not apply to her. Has the diplomatic row over the alleged mistreatment of the consular official taken over the issue of alleged underpayment to Khobragade's domestic help? We discuss.
