'Healthy Mothers, Healthy Children': Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's Campaign In Rajasthan Constituency
He has been a two-time MP from Kota Bundi and is the Speaker in the 17th Lok Sabha. But, Om Birla never lost touch with his constituency, he has represented the Kota seat three times as an MLA and even today without any fuss, Speaker Om Birla works quietly on the ground. When 10 children died in Kota in two days at at the biggest government hospital, Mr Birla visited the families and was struck by how the mothers who lost their children. Its then that he decided to launch the 'Suposhit Maa Abhiyan', an operation to provide nutritional support to pregnant women. His team works quietly in Kota identifying poor families where pregnant women need nutritional support. So far, 18,000 women have been given nutrition kits and all this is done with funds collected by public support in Kota.
