Fisherfolk Vs ₹1,200 Cr Marina Project: Would Vijay Abandon The Plan?

Fisherfolk in Chennai held a protest near the site of the proposed ₹1,200-crore Secretariat-cum-Assembly complex close to Marina Beach. They are demanding that the government order for the 26-acre project be scrapped and the land used instead for fisherfolk housing. They fear eviction, loss of livelihood and restrictions on fishing and fish vending, while environmentalists have raised concerns over a massive project so close to the sea amid climate change and rising sea levels. The Tamil Nadu government says it will consider the issue sympathetically, while ruling TVK says Vijay will take the final call.
