Farooq Abdullah Invites Mirwaiz To J&K Statehood Protest, BJP Slams Move

A fresh political controversy has erupted after National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah invited 53 opposition leaders to join a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20, the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session, demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.

Among those invited are senior opposition leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, M.K. Stalin, Arvind Kejriwal, as well as Jammu and Kashmir leaders Mehbooba Mufti, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sajjad Lone—and Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

While the National Conference defended the invitation, saying Mirwaiz is an important religious leader in Kashmir, the BJP accused the INDIA bloc of aligning with separatist voices under the guise of seeking statehood.
