India is accelerating efforts to strengthen security along the Bangladesh border in sensitive stretches of West Bengal. NDTV travelled to Changrabandha in Cooch Behar district, where residents say illegal cattle smuggling, porous borders and security challenges have persisted for years.
With permanent border fencing now underway, many villagers have welcomed the move, saying it could improve security and curb illegal activities. However, concerns remain over land acquisition, compensation and the need for greater consultation with affected families.
