The Coastal Regulation Zone Notification of 1991 recognized that coastal areas needed some form of protection from unregulated development. The Environment Ministry earlier this year reduced no-development zone from 200 m to 100 m along the high tide line lifting restrictions on development on Coastal Regulation Zones in Mumbai.
