“Timmy” The Stranded Humpback Whale In Baltic Sea Likely To Die, Rescuers Lose Hope

A stranded humpback whale, nicknamed “Timmy,” is unlikely to survive after repeated entrapments in shallow waters near Poel Island, close to Wismar. Despite continuous monitoring by Greenpeace and local authorities, rescuers now believe the exhausted animal may not make it. The whale had earlier been freed from shallow waters near Timmendorfer Strand, only to become stranded again. Experts say the whale is now severely weakened, showing irregular breathing patterns and minimal movement. Authorities had hoped the animal would regain strength and swim back to deeper waters, but falling water levels and repeated stress have diminished those chances. Marine experts suggest the whale may have strayed into the Baltic Sea while following prey or during migration, far from its natural habitat.
