In today's episode of India Global, Fresh political chaos has erupted in the already reeling Bangladesh. At the back of months of continuous violence, the nation is now reeling from Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’s shock announcement to delay elections until April 2026. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, once Yunus' closest allies, has slammed the move as a betrayal of the people’s sacrifice and a threat to national stability. BNP has issued a fiery statement saying that 'People bled for this democracy,' referencing the July uprising that forced regime change last year. Now, with Yunus overstepping his mandate, talking ports instead of polls, frustration has reached a boiling point. It is not just the BNP. In fact, the student protesters on whose backs Yunus ousted Former PM Sheikh Hasina in August 2024's uprising have also be demanding elections by December. NDTV's Arjun Samar Mahendran speaks with Former Ambassador to Bangladesh Veena Sikri to discuss this and more.
