Assam Uniform Civil Code | TMC Backs Parts Of Assam UCC, Opposes “Attack On Muslim Personal Law”
Lone TMC MLA in Assam, Sherman Ali Ahmed, tells NDTV that the party supports provisions such as the ban on child marriage, ban on polygamy, and mandatory registration of live-in relationships in the Assam UCC Bill. However, he says certain sections of the proposed law are being opposed as they are viewed as an attack on Muslim personal law and Islamic practices.
