Recalling her final conversation with her son, his mother, Poonam Kumar, said he had called her on the morning of the crash to say he was leaving for a mission. Hours later, the family received the devastating news that the aircraft had crashed. “I didn’t know that my son would leave and never return,” she said. The AN-32 transport aircraft crashed during a routine sortie while attempting to land at the Jorhat airbase on June 13, killing five IAF personnel. The co-pilot survived and is undergoing treatment. The Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.
