In 2017 Congress emerged as the single-largest party in Goa, winning 17 seats. By 2019, 15 of the MLAs defected to the BJP. Ahead of the 2022 election, Congress showed how they would avoid an action replay. Now with 8 more, they are at 33 in the 40-member Goa assembly, the opposition down to just seven MLAs.
