High-priced food options at airport premises have long been a pain point for travellers. From ₹300 sandwiches to overpriced cups of coffee, many flyers have taken to social media to call out the steep costs, often saying it takes away from the overall travel experience. Raghav Chadha, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Aam Aadmi Party, had earlier urged the government to ensure affordable food options at airports across India. His demand struck a chord with frequent flyers who have long complained about limited budget-friendly choices at airports.
In response, the government introduced Udaan Yatri Cafes at select airports. These cafes are designed to offer basic food and beverages at pocket-friendly prices. Unlike most airport outlets, which operate under high rentals and pass on the cost to consumers, Udaan Yatri Cafes focus on accessibility and affordability.
Recently, Raghav Chadha was seen enjoying a steaming hot cup of tea at Mumbai Airport before jetting off to Delhi. The politician shared a video on Instagram, capturing moments from his quick airport diary.
“Visited the Udaan Yatri Café at Mumbai Airport and had chai for just Rs 10,” he wrote in the caption.
He further elaborated on his experience and highlighted the importance of affordable airport food. “Was flying to Delhi and wanted chai before the flight. Spoke to several travellers while I was there. All of them happy, all of them saying the same thing: Easy on the pocket, good service, value for money,” he said, adding, “Affordable airport food is possible. And this is proof.”
