- An International Driving Permit is an official document.
- It's recognised in over 150 countries.
- Here's how you can apply for it from India.
Planning an international road trip or heading abroad for work or study? If you have a valid Indian driving licence, you might also need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to legally drive in another country. Many countries require it for tourists and temporary residents before allowing them behind the wheel. It's often mandatory for renting vehicles and is even checked at checkpoints in some places. Skip it, and you might be denied access to the road altogether. Here's how to apply for it, documents required and answers to questions many travellers ask.
What Is An International Driving Permit?
An International Driving Permit is an official document that translates your Indian driving licence into multiple languages. It's recognised in over 150 countries, including the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and more. However, it's not a substitute for your Indian driving licence - you must carry both when driving abroad.
Who Can Apply?
