Losing luggage at the airport isn't uncommon, and for many travellers it can turn the start or end of a trip into unnecessary stress. To help ease that experience, Google has introduced a new Find Hub feature that lets passengers share the live location of missing bags directly with airlines, making it easier for staff to search in the right place. As per Business Today, the system has already gone live with Turkish Airlines, which has adopted the tool as part of its baggage‑tracking process. The feature forms part of Google's broader effort to build a single platform for locating tracked items across devices, but its travel application is already receiving attention as airlines look for ways to speed up recovery when bags go missing.

Google has designed the process to be simple enough for passengers to use while still standing at the baggage carousel. Travellers must have a Find Hub‑compatible tracker or accessory attached to their luggage. Once they realise their bag hasn't arrived, the information can be shared within minutes.

Passengers can do the following inside the Find Hub app:

  • Open the app and choose the missing item.
  • Tap “Share Item Location” to generate a secure URL showing the bag's real‑time position.
  • Paste the link into the participating airline's baggage claim form on its app or website.
  • Allow staff to use the link to view updated location details.

The system is designed with privacy in mind. According to the reports, users can stop sharing whenever they wish, links automatically expire after seven days, and the feature switches off the moment the phone detects the bag nearby again. All data exchanged through the app is encrypted.

These safeguards mean travellers maintain full control of who sees their information and for how long.

Which Airlines Are Early Partners?

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

As the feature launches, Google has partnered with more than ten international carriers to integrate Find Hub into their baggage systems. According to reports, the early list includes:

  • Turkish Airlines
  • Air India
  • AJet
  • China Airlines
  • Lufthansa Group carriers (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss)
  • Saudia
  • Scandinavian Airlines (SAS)

More airlines, including Qantas, are expected to join soon.

How Travellers Benefit From Find Hub

The biggest advantage for travellers is the ability to cut down the waiting time often involved in tracing misplaced bags. Instead of relying solely on manual scans and internal airline messaging, staff can use the real‑time link to narrow down the bag's location almost instantly. This reduces uncertainty for passengers and speeds up the search across busy hubs.

As per news organisation Skift, passenger‑authorised location share information into systems such as WorldTracer, which provides an additional layer of visibility for airline teams. It helps staff prioritise cases more accurately and lowers the risk of bags going permanently missing. For frequent fliers, this means fewer days spent waiting for updates and more proactive communication from airlines handling delayed luggage.
