- A spontaneous Mumbai-to-Roorkee drive covered 1,500 km non-stop in 24 hours
- The journey showcased India's expanding expressway network, including the NE4 section
- Smooth roads on NE4 and Gujarat highways contrasted with uneven Mumbai-Ahmedabad stretches
There is something timeless about road trips. The open highway, the changing landscapes and the promise of new memories make long drives one of the simplest yet most rewarding ways to travel. Whether planned weeks in advance or decided at the last moment, these journeys often bring stories that stay with us long after the trip ends. Recently, we came across a video that captures exactly this spirit - a spontaneous father and son drive from Mumbai to Roorkee that turned into a remarkable 1,500 kilometre non-stop adventure.
The video, shared by Instagram user @car.crazy.guy, captures a spontaneous Mumbai-to-Roorkee drive that took an unexpected turn. "Mumbai to Roorkee in one single stretch. It was never the plan but India's new network of roadways made this 1,500 non stop journey possible... I barely had time to prep the car. But the trusty Ford Freestyle loves road trips as much as I do."

Once he exited Mumbai's western suburbs and joined NH48, he noticed smoother traffic than before. But the real highlight was entering the NE4 - the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway - still under construction but already showcasing India's rapid infrastructure growth. "The first entry is at Kharel... around 200 kilometres long and connects with NE1, the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway." "For now, all I can say, I feel extremely proud to see such development in India," he adds.

Not every stretch impressed him, especially on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad side. "Uneven surfacing takes away the joy... It discourages cruising at legal limits," he says. But the road soon improved. "Gets better in the next section... The bullet train project runs parallel... It will be great to spot the high-speed train." A new bridge over the Narmada River and smooth elevated corridors through Vadodara added to the experience. The Halol Road, "an extremely well-built Gujarat state highway," brought back effortless cruising.
To avoid industrial traffic, they detoured along a peaceful irrigation canal. "Driving parallel to an irrigation canal, which was peaceful, quiet and absolutely serene," he recalls. Near the Gujarat-Madhya Pradesh border, NH47 impressed with "long curves, some elevations."
The standout segment came near the end. "One of the best developments in modern India is the NE4 section from Timarwani to Gurugram... an eight-lane expressway that cuts through mountains, passes through windmill farms and takes you from central India to the capital city in just hours." Sparse traffic made it feel "as if this is a private expressway just for you."

After a brief break to rest and warm up, they pushed through the night. "The DND Expressway was deserted... and we reached our destination at 4 a.m. precisely after 24 hours. What a fantastic drive and what a great companion the Ford has been," he concludes.
And just like that, a simple idea turned into a story of bonding, endurance and the joy of discovering India's changing roads together.
