- Air India will cut international flights from June to August 2026 due to costs and restrictions
- Flights to North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia will see reduced frequencies or suspensions
- Delhi-Chicago and Delhi-Shanghai routes are suspended temporarily during this period
If you've booked an international trip with Air India for the next few months, there's an important update. In a press release, the airline announced temporary flight cuts and schedule changes to several international routes from June to August 2026. Flights to North America, Europe, Australia, and many Asian destinations have been affected.
Why Air India Has Cut International Flights For Summer
In an official statement, Air India said the decision was taken because of two major challenges. Many long-haul routes are now more costly and challenging to operate due to airspace restrictions over specific areas and record-high jet fuel prices for international operations.
Instead of risking last-minute cancellations, Air India says it is reducing flights in advance to make the network more stable and spare travellers the confusion. Even with these changes, the airline says it will still operate more than 1,200 international flights every month across five continents.

So, international services are very much active. The press release states that there will still be 33 weekly flights to North America, 47 weekly flights to Europe, 57 weekly flights to the UK, 8 weekly flights to Australia, 158 weekly flights to the Far East, Southeast Asia, and SAARC regions, and 7 weekly flights to Mauritius (Africa).
Biggest Changes In Flight Schedules
- Some of the biggest changes are on North American routes, as the Delhi-Chicago service has been temporarily suspended.
- Flights from Delhi to San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver have been reduced.
- On a positive note, flights from Mumbai to Newark will now operate daily.
- Europe is also seeing fewer flights. Popular routes like Paris, Rome, Zurich, Vienna, Milan, and Copenhagen will now have reduced weekly services.
- In Australia, both Delhi-Melbourne and Delhi-Sydney flights have been reduced from daily operations to just 4 flights a week through this period.
- The biggest shake-up is across Asia and nearby destinations. Flights from Delhi to Shanghai have been suspended through August.
- Chennai-Singapore, Mumbai-Dhaka, and Delhi-Malé flights have also been temporarily paused.
- Other routes, including Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Colombo, Dhaka, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City, will continue but with fewer weekly flights.
Air India says affected travellers will be helped directly. If your flight is cancelled or changed, the airline will offer alternative bookings, date changes, or full refunds, depending on your ticket. Passengers are advised to check updates only through Air India's official website, app, customer care channels, or verified social media accounts.

The announcement of the rationalisation of flights has come after a wave of serious confusion online. Viral social media posts claimed that Air India had cancelled all international flights until July because of a fuel shortage. Naturally, it left many travellers worried. Now, Air India has shut down those rumours and updated the temporary schedule reshuffle.
