World Junior Tennis Championships

World No. 1 and last edition's individual runner-up Doo Hoi Kem lived up to her reputation with a straight-game win over India's top junior Sagarika Mukherjee in the opener before a gallant Ayhika Mukherjee snatched the second singles to draw level at 1-1 at the NSCI's Sardar Vallabhai Patel Indoor Stadium.

The team of Manika Batra, Suthirtha Mukherjee, Ayhika Mukherjee and Reeth Rishya Tennison managed to win their singles which helped the team claim the 9-10 play-off match.

The girls' team, which qualified on the basis of its good performances in recent international events, is seeded 10 while Manika Batra, the highest ranked Indian player at 36, has been given a direct entry into the main draw of the singles event.

BR Nikshep, ranked number1 in the under-14 boys singles in Asia as well as in the country, has been selected for the Indian boys under-14 team for the World junior tennis championships (Asia Oceania Zone) scheduled at Kuching, Malaysia, from April 28 to May 6.

India will host the World Junior Table Tennis Championships this year instead of in 2013.The 2012 edition of the event was originally allotted to South Africa and was to be held between December 9 and 16, Indian Table Tennis Federation (TTFI) said in statement.
