Days after the crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses, the striking meat traders of Uttar Pradesh had a meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday evening. While the four-day old strike was not immediately called off, the traders hinted at a positive decision, saying an announcement will be made after internal meetings.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, racing through his poll promises within three days of taking charge, today directed police officers to prepare an action plan to shut down slaughterhouses. He has also ordered a blanket ban on cattle smuggling and said there must be "zero tolerance" in such cases.
