26% Candidates In UP Polls Declared Criminal Cases Against Themselves: Report

As much as 26 per cent of the 4,406 candidates in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh polls whose affidavits were analysed have declared criminal cases against themselves, according to a report by poll watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

A total of 104 candidates in the Delhi Assembly elections have declared serious criminal cases against themselves, up from 74 in 2015 polls, with highest from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party which has 36 nominees with serious charges, according to election watchdog ADR.

The percentage of crorepati (multi-millionaire) candidates in the ongoing Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls has gone up to 24 per cent from 19 per cent in the last elections, and the percentage of those with criminal cases has also risen by one percentile point to 17 per cent, shows an analysis.
