Supreme Court Rejects Telcos' Plea on AGR Dues Owed to Government

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea from telecom companies to reassess the dues they owe the government, resulting in a decline in the stock prices of Vodafone Idea and its counterparts. Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel are facing a combined debt of Rs. 1 lakh crore in outstanding dues, encompassing spectrum charges and licensing fees.

Airtel Pays Rs. 8,312 Crore to DoT as Advance Instalment for Recently Purchased 5G Spectrum

Airtel has paid Rs. 8,3 crore to the Department of Telecom (DoT) towards dues for spectrum acquired in the recently concluded 5G auctions. With the payment, Airtel has paid four years of 2022 spectrum dues upfront. The company had an option to pay Rs. 3.8 crore upfront and the rest in 19 annual instalments.

Bharti Airtel Defers Payment of AGR Dues Up to FY19 After DoT's Moratorium Offer

Bharti Airtel on Thursday said it has opted to defer the payment of AGR dues up to FY 2018-19, that are not tabulated in the Supreme Court's order, by up to four years. Last week, debt-ridden telecom operator Vodafone Idea (VIL) decided to defer payment of additional AGR dues of Rs. 8,837 crore by a period of four years.
