Government proposes amendments in VAT act

At present, there is no provision in the Act for auditing the accounts of a registered dealer by a chartered accountant or a cost accountant, if the total turnover, including zero sale and sale in the course of inter-state trade or commerce exceeded Rs 1 crore a year.

Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday denied reports that the state's fishermen were attacked allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy on April 2. "A section of the media reported that Tamil fishermen were attacked by Sri Lankan Navy on April 2. On investigation, we found that the reports were not true," Fisheries Minister KA Jayapal told the Assembly.
