T20 Clash In Srinagar

The NIT Srinagar today announced a revised schedule of examinations for outstation students who had skipped the tests earlier this month in the wake of trouble following clashes over India's defeat to the West Indies in the T20 World cup on March 31.

16 students and a hostel warden, all of them from Jammu and Kashmir, were suspended by Mewar Univesrity authorities yesterday. The suspensions come after two groups of students fought with each other last week over India's loss to West Indies in the T20 Cricket World cup.

A day after he described the assault on students at the NIT campus in Srinagar as "a mild lathi charge", Nirmal Singh, the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, told NDTV he had been misinformed of the facts.

The NIT campus in Srinagar -- which saw clashes last week among students after India exited the T20 World Cup -- is a high-tension zone again with students being lathi-charged by the police, paramilitary forces assigned for the night to guard the campus, and two Union ministers tweeting about the situation.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday asked the Jammu and Kashmir authorities to ensure safety of students at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar where clashes erupted between two groups after the India-West Indies T20 cricket match on Thursday.
