CBI has asked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat to appear before it on December 26 in connection with a probe into the purported sting operation involving him.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has accepted opposition BJP's "challenge" for an open debate on the sting operation case in which he has been purportedly shown negotiating a deal to buy support of disgruntled party legislators at the time of the recent political crisis in Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand High Court today directed the CBI to intimate it prior to filing a regular case against Chief Minister Harish Rawat on the basis of its preliminary investigations into the sting CD case.

"Sometimes even an ant can trouble an elephant," Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said today, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, hours after appearing before the CBI in the sting CD case involving him.

With the CBI issuing summons to him in the sting CD case, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today voiced doubts about the neutrality of the probe agency, alleging the timing of the move suggests there is an attempt to "influence" the floor test in the Assembly.

The Congress today termed the sting CD episode as part of a conspiracy to malign the Uttarakhand government's image and said it will lodge an FIR against the BJP for levelling baseless allegations against the party.
