Ten accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case went on a one-day hunger strike in the Taloja jail in neighbouring Navi Mumbai on Wednesday to protest against what they termed as an "institutional murder" of co-accused Jesuit priest Stan Swamy.

Tribal rights activist Stan Swamy had petitioned against the poor medical facilities at the Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai, especially amid the Covid pandemic. The NHRC today asked the Maharashtra government to ensure he received every possible care.

Stan Swamy, the 83-year-old tribal rights activist who suffers from Parkinson's disease and was arrested last month over his alleged involvement in the Bhima-Koregaon case, has been given a straw and sipper by Taloja jail authorities, news agency PTI reported his lawyer as saying on Friday.
