Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has not campaigned at all for the Uttar Pradesh elections, has written a letter one day before voting is held in her parliamentary constituency Raebareli, accusing the Modi government of "deliberately" depriving people of the centre's welfare schemes.

Faced with stiff opposition on the land bill, the government today reached out to all stakeholders. In a letter to the leaders of opposition parties, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and Gandhian Anna Hazare, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said the government was willing to debate all aspects of the bill.

"Instead allowing his allies to blame the survivor, Mr Kurien should welcome a full investigation."
