Detained US ship's crew shifted from Tirunelveli to Chennai

Twenty two foreign nationals among the 35 arrested crew of detained US-based private ship were today shifted from the Central Prison at Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli to Chennai while a court adjourned the hearing to Thursday on a police plea seeking seven days custody of three others.

The CID branch of the Tamil Nadu Police today moved a court in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu seeking custody of three crew members of the detained US vessel, arrested for illegally carrying arms and ammunition in Indian waters, for further investigation.

The Indian Coast Guard on Friday intercepted and detained a vessel belonging to a US-based firm off the coast of Kanyakumari. MV Seaman Guard had 10 crew and 25 armed security guards on board.
